 Welcome to Sonoma State University! All of us at the university are excited that you have chosen to embark on the next leg of your educational journey as a Seawolf. The SSU campus is an ideal place to live and learn, with its abundance of natural beauty, small class sizes and student-teacher ratios, and strong sense of community. You are part of a student-centered learning environment that emphasizes intellectual development, scholarship, and personal growth – and having some fun along the way.
I hope you will thoughtfully review the hundreds of course offerings in this catalog. SSU’s curriculum is designed to stimulate your intellect, broaden your knowledge horizons, and increase your understanding of yourself and others in preparation for a diverse, ever-changing world. Sonoma State has a deep commitment to the liberal arts and sciences – we are the only California university with membership in the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges, a group known as the “Public Ivies” – which has allowed us to shape a top-level university experience for a broad range of students.
I am proud to call Sonoma State University home, and I know you will be too, as both a student and an alumnus. The path ahead will be marked by challenges and surprises, for the pursuit of knowledge is rigorous and demanding.
