POLS 315 - Modern Political Ideologies

This course is an examination of the major ideas of important theorists about the relationships among democracy, capitalism, and socialism and other political ideologies and systems. The actual strengths and shortcomings of some of the current world’s major political/economic systems that attempt to put these ideas into practice are considered, allowing students to study the ideologies presented in this course from theoretical, practical, and multiple disciplinary perspectives. Particular attention will be devoted to comparing and contrasting the different ideologies to highlight the differences and similarities among them. The course is an opportunity for students to work on necessary skills for an educated citizen, which include critical thinking, reading, writing, listening and discussion.

Prerequisite(s): Completion of GE Golden Four (A1, A2, A3, B4) with a C- or better; completion of lower division GE Area D coursework; completion of at least 45 units.
