AMCS 276 - Introduction to African American History Unit(s): 3 This course introduces students to African American history, beginning with West African society and the imposition of chattel slavery as Africans were taken forcibly to the New World. The course traces the rise and fall plantation slavery and the growth of free black communities. It concludes with the struggle for racial equality from the civil rights movement into the 21st Century.
