EDSP 426 - Communication Development: Assessment and Instruction Unit(s): 4 In this course, students are presented with an overview of typical and atypical communication development in special populations. Evaluation measures, evidence based practices and effective instructional strategies related to the implementation of special education services for students with communication disorders and their families are addressed. Foundational knowledge on intervention techniques, AAC, and second language development is provided. Additional emphasis is placed on the communication and collaboration skills useful in forming productive partnerships with families, school personnel and community service providers. Class readings and course assignments are integrated within this class to establish the connection from special education theory to practice culminating in the development of a communication report.
