ANTH 202 - Introduction to Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Unit(s): 3 Archaeology is a subfield of anthropology that studies past human societies, cultural traditions, environments, heritage, and identities through material culture. This course is an introduction to how archaeology is done—the models, theories, methods, and ethical guidelines that archaeologists use to produce this knowledge. Students will learn about topics including the history of archaeology as a discipline, including how it is transforming today to address its colonialist past; the goals, and legal and policy frameworks, of cultural resources management and heritage preservation; and the uses and abuses of archaeological evidence for political, economic, and social purposes.
