Child Development Permit


The California Child Development Permit is issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). The following SSU courses can be applied to the Permit. Please speak with an Early Childhood Studies advisor for more information about how to apply for the Child Development Permit.

The following courses satisfy CCTC requirements for coursework in each of the permit categories. Please keep in mind that courses are not offered every year; careful planning is needed to complete coursework efficiently and timely.

Permit Course Work


Applicants for the Child Development Permit must complete 15 units of coursework from the following categories. Please see an Early Childhood advisor for more information.

General Early Childhood Development


In addition to EDEC courses that focus on children from birth to age 5, the following also fits this category

Supervised Field Experience


EDEC 220, EDEC 437, and EDEC 237 (discontinued) are four-unit courses that include three units of content and one unit of supervised fieldwork. Three courses must be completed to meet the permit’s 3-unit supervised fieldwork requirement.
